Commemorating Our History: The 130th Anniversary of the Battersea & Wandsworth Trades Union Council
On Saturday, 14 September, members and supporters of the Battersea & Wandsworth Trades Union Council gathered for a special event to honour the remarkable legacy of John Archer. Held at his grave in Lower Morden Lane, Morden, this commemoration marked a significant milestone: the 130th anniversary of our Trades Council.
John Archer, a trailblazer in local and national history, served as a tireless advocate for equality, workers' rights, and community solidarity. Alongside him, John Burns, our founding member and a champion for the labour movement, holds a unique place in our shared history. To honour their contributions, the Trades Council undertook the restoration of their graves, ensuring their memories endure for generations to come.
This film captures the heartfelt ceremony, which brought together union members, local residents, and community leaders in a spirit of unity and reflection. It celebrates not only the incredible achievements of Archer and Burns but also the enduring commitment of the Trades Council to preserving and building upon their legacy.
As we stand at this historic crossroads, we are reminded that our history is not just something to be remembered but a foundation to inspire our ongoing fight for justice, equality, and dignity for all workers. Let this film serve as a testament to the strength of our shared purpose and the power of solidarity.
We are proud of our past, determined in the present, and hopeful for the future.
